The “magazine about myself” project was a really personal and creative challenge compared to other design projects, since I wasn’t designing for a brand or product, but had to present myself in a magazine format. The instructions called for a 6-page DIN A5 booklet — a title page, 4 inner pages, and a back page — with each inner page covering a different topic about me, laid out like a small magazine with headers, footers, page numbers, at least two text columns per page, a consistent grid, and a mix of headlines, subheadings, body text, and photos or illustrations.
Planning out four distinct topics about myself took more thought than I expected — it’s easier to design around a fictional brand than to decide what’s actually worth telling people about yourself and how to structure it visually. Keeping the layout consistent across all four pages, while still giving each page its own character depending on the topic, was the main design challenge, and the two-column grid with fixed header/footer elements helped keep everything unified.
Time-wise, working in InDesign with a fixed layout grid meant that once the structure for one page was set, the following pages went faster, since I could reuse the header, footer, and column setup as a template. The final deliverables — the printed magazine, the print-ready PDF, and the original InDesign file — all came together in time, and I’m happy with how the finished booklet turned out, both in terms of the design consistency and how well it represents who I am.
